CNN journalist Anderson Cooper officially came out of the closet on Monday following years of rumors and speculations on his sexual orientation.
Cooper’s gay statement was made public after an email exchange with Andrew Sullivan.
The TV anchor explained that he kept his private life on the low because he did not want it to interfere with his commitment to his job.
Mr. Copper shared:
“I’ve always believed that who a reporter votes for, what religion they are, who they love, should not be something they have to discuss publicly. As long as a journalist shows fairness and honesty in his or her work, their private life shouldn’t matter.”
Anderson Cooper also dispelled the notion that he was hiding something for not outing himself before today. He states that he is a proud and happy gay American, the AC360 host revealed:
“The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.”
Celebrities ranging Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris to Kelly Ripa and Tyra Banks have all taken to Twitter to show support to Mr. Cooper.
